Baby turns two! Last year, when our daughter turned one, we had a very small, intimate party with 8-10 people. This year, however, we decided to go big and invite more people, which meant we needed to spend more money on food and decor. Keep reading for the full price breakdown of our Elmo and Abby themed birthday party!
PARTY DECOR
Our daughter is obsessed with Elmo and Abby, therefore I decided to combine the two characters and use red, pink and orange as the party colors. I made two small balloon garlands and a backdrop using streamers. You’ll see from the photos that the streamers flew all over the place, but I don’t regret making the backdrop as it contributed to the overall look and theme.
The disposable tablecloths, utensils, and napkins were red and pink. I also ordered six centerpieces (in red and pink) from Etsy to add to each table.
PARTY DETAILS
We doubled in size and this time around we hosted 20-25 guests. The party took place in our backyard, under the carport, which meant we saved money on location. We opted for fresh, light food since this was a very hot, summer party! We ordered sandwiches, pasta salad, and a fruit platter – all from Central Market catering.
Additionally, we ordered a two-tier Elmo cake and a dozen large cookies from a local baker (see pictures under PARTY DECOR). For drinks we made a lemonade cucumber mint water, and served Capri Sun, Coke, and bottled water.
Our tiny guests all received a goody bag filled with party favors (sensory balls, yo-yos, stickers, candy, etc). The party was scheduled around the birthday girl’s afternoon nap, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. It was short and sweet!
PRICE BREAKDOWN
Before I talk about the price of each item, I want to clarify that we didn’t spend any money on tables and chairs. My mom has a ton of party furniture that she always lends us when we have parties or events. For this party, we used 6 long tables and 20+ chairs.
- The balloons, utensils, disposable tablecloths, napkins, goody bags, serving trays, and paper weights were $150 from a local party supply store
- Two white cake stands from Target and Amazon – $35 for both
- Red, light pink, dark pink, and orange streamers were $1 each from Walmart
- A $20 electric balloon pump from Amazon – worth the price if it means I get to save time
- An $11 hand pump for the smaller balloons.
- Balloon garland kit – at under $10 (we used zip ties and duct tape to stick to the carport)
- Central Market catering was $165 – which included tea sandwiches for 20-25 people, a large pasta salad and a small fruit bowl
- Chips, cokes, Capri Suns, bottled water, lemons, cucumber, agave syrup, mint, and ice bags – $50-60
- Custom Elmo cake and cookies – $345
- Three Elmo and three Abby centerpieces – $120 from Etsy (the quality up close wasn’t the best, but I love supporting small businesses)
- Two custom Luna Street signs – $65 from Etsy (Great quality!)
- Party favors were random items from Target – $40
- Invitation – free (made by me)
- Gift tag for party favor baggies – free (made by me)
The grand total we spent on our toddler’s birthday party for 20-25 people was approximately $1,025. Of course, this amount does NOT include her gifts.
